Merry Christmas 2015

I can’t quite believe the year has gone, but would you believe it, planet Earth was the plucky little orb that could and another year ticks by.  I think 2014 has been a good year, all things considered.  I end it very, very tired, and still a bit ill, but looking back across the time gone I find to my slight distress that there hasn’t been a single week which wasn’t full of activity.  I’ve lit a vast number of shows, finished a topsecretnovel, finished some novellas (due to be published next year) and am nearly at the end of Claire North no.3, so this all seems good.  But even as I write this sentence I’m aware that I really hate ending the year with an assessment of material gains so let’s put it like this: at the end of 2015 I’m still warm, have a roof over my head, friends I love, family I am looking forward to opening presents with, professionals I respect, and generally I’m a little bit calmer, a little bit better at writing Mandarin, and a little bit harder to kill with sticks.  Also a little bit more worried about the planet (seriously: let’s all join the Green Party, yes?) and even more incensed at our government and media, but on the plus side, going into 2015, I think I may have the luxury of, at the very least, voting the buggers out, and at the best perhaps even shouting for the odd campaign.  After all the great fallacy of all collective action are the words ‘yeah but what can I do?’

Anyhow, point is, the year’s been fun; let’s hope next year is more so.  And for everyone reading this: Merry Christmas, and have a Happy New Year!
