Kindles – another post-script

So, a few days ago I blogged about how much I loathe Kindles; both for their failure to do columns, but also for their infuriating failure to allow literature to be passed down from one generation to another.  (Brief summary for those who missed that week’s rant: while a physical kindle may be passed down from generation to generation, its content is wiped with each new owner; something I find obscene.)

However!  In the spirit of fair play, I have to admit that amazon have finally, albeit rather reluctantly, come good and transferred my father’s books over to my Mum’s account, allowing her to carry on reading them on the kindle.  I’m not going to pretend that this eliminates my hatred of kindles, since as I said, it was very grudgingly done and took weeks and weeks of furious emailing to get achieved – but in a spirit of fairness I have to point out that amazon did co-operate.  Suggesting, perhaps, that even if their technology is the most infuriating thing I’ve ever encountered, at least one or two heads in the customer service departments, are capable of reasonable thought, and to them at least, my equally grudging gratitude is due!
