In Praise of… Dark City

No one reading this blog will have seen Dark City.
Except you (and you should really be thinking about medicine right now) and possibly you.
For everyone else, Dark City.  Remember how I said I did a swap of films with a friend of mine?  I got Pixar movies, she got Tarentino?  It reminded me that one thing she didn’t get from me, and which is still on my list of things to exchange, is Dark City.  And as I was in blogging mode and feel I should abuse my position as an all-purpose science fiction/fantasy nerd to the very fullest, I figured I’d take this opportunity to mention Dark City.
It’s a film about…
… well, the brief narrative version would be about a city in perpetual night where mysterious things happen and a great evil must be unravelled and defeated and a girl must be found and the day must be a) saved and b) created….
… while the more pretentious and yet quaintly accurate version would be it’s a film about who we are and what makes us human…
Its directed, oddly enough, by the same gentleman who directed I, Robot, and you can see many of the similar themes that crop up in that movie, only done much, much better and with more intensity.  But less cash.  This being the way things can often work….
It’s good.
Go watch.
